Ethics is the study of morals in human conduct. Ethical issues include ownership, responsibility for and
preservation of the past and treatment of human remains.
According to ancient Egyptian burial beliefs, once the mummy was sealed in its tomb, it was to remain
undisturbed for all eternity, as disturbance of the deceased threatened their survival in the afterlife. Yet,

Some mummies are still in their original
linen bandages, however some mummies' bandages have been unwrapped to display the embalming process. The right of museums to display mummies has sparked debate amongst scholars in regards to these ethical issues. |

Today, greater care of Egyptian mummies is taken. For instance, the mummy of Tutankhamun which was unwrapped, has been
returned to its resting place in the Valley of the Kings . Egyptian law now forbids unwrapping of mummies without special
permission. The examination of mummies must now be conducted by non invasive scientific methods.
